Dates, events and anniversaries not to be missed in May

Mother’s Day,Eurovision, the Cannes Film Festival and the International Book Fair are just some of the May events to note when planning a well-structured marketing and communications strategy. These are perfect anniversaries and events in terms of launching ad hoc campaigns.

While some dates are perfect as “BuyDays“-great for creating 360-degree promotions with different objectives-other dates can still be exploited for more specific sectors, such as sports, food & beverage, cosmetics and fashion.

Main target sectors: cosmetics, fashion, food and wine, sports, publishing.

Sunday 8: Mother’s Day is among the most eagerly anticipated “BuyDays” of the year precisely because it presents an opportunity to promote flash deals, or at least in the short term, highly engaging deals. Then again, ‘mom is always mom,’ so a little something for this day is almost a must! Often for such a date, companies plan bundles that are customizable and easy to make up. In this way, users/customers can quickly select their choice and receive the gift on time.

Main target industries: music, fashion and cosmetics.

Tuesday 10: May 10-14 the spotlight is on theEurovision Song Contest, among the most beloved and followed music events ever. After MÃ¥neskin won in 2021 at the Rotterdam Ahoy with the song “Hush and Quiet,” this year’s competition was held in Turin, more specifically at the PalaOlimpico. Why is this a date to mark on the calendar? Because every year Eurovision dictates trends and styles-not only of the music scene-super appreciated and then ‘copied’ by international audiences.

Main target industries: film, high fashion, cosmetics, tourism.

Wednesday 17:Cannes Film Festival takes center stage for more than 10 days, May 17-28. Cinema, haute couture, cosmetics are among the most involved sectors already weeks before the kermis begins. Even on social media, activities related to the Cannes Film Festival, VIPs attending and ‘scoops’ reach respectable numbers, better not to be caught unprepared.

Main target areas: ALL!

Tuesday, 17:International Day Against Homophobia, Biphobia and Transphobia is not a date like any other, not a ‘simple’ occasion to put on the agenda for any promotions. Such a Day has significance beyond any marketing strategy, as it represents values and principles beyond ‘standard’ communication. It affects women and men, young and old, from every continent and, for that very reason, it is an event not to be forgotten.

Main areas of focus: publishing, but not only!

Thursday 19: you don’t have to be a reading enthusiast to recognize that the Turin International Book Fair has been a major event since 1988. Edition number 34 opens its doors in the middle of the month and can be visited until Monday 23. A more than valid opportunity to start promos inspired by some sweeping novel or an adventurous journey, in short, it is a time to unleash your imagination and let your creativity run wild.

Main target sectors: gardening, fashion and cosmetics (especially beachwear and sunscreen), sports and tourism.

Saturday, 21: the countdown to the summer solstice, June 21, begins, and it’s a date to mark in red! Obviously, the period lends itself to sponsorship activities of commercial areas mostly confined to the season, such as costumes and sunscreen, but also sports equipment for outdoor activities or accessories dedicated to gardening.

May appointments: more dates not to be forgotten

May is also the month of Labor Day (May 1), as well as the Netcomm Forum (Tuesday, May 3 and Wednesday, May 4) and major sporting events-the Giro d’Italia, the UEFA Women’s Champions League final and Roland Garros are just a few examples.
Another date not to be forgotten-in this case not only for industry campaigns but mostly for personal interest-is Sunday the 15th: International Museum Day.

P. S.
For a company that sells honey products, May is the top month, not coincidentally there is World Bee Day (Friday 20).
