The intensification of data traffic on mobile and the increasing use of smartphones has led to an increasing focus on distributing content to a wider audience across different devices.
The fact, however, that a desktop website is visible on cell phones does not necessarily mean that it is well optimized. First, therefore, it must be clear what the main points are to ensure the accessibility and usability of the mobile website, and in a second step create your own checklist to set goals. Here is ours.
Responsive Web Design: the suitable display for each device
1.Responsive Web design: an appropriate display for each device
A site designed only for desktop PCs is sure to appear unreadable on mobile and force the user to constantly zoom in to take advantage of the content. Therefore, information should be organized vertically, but avoiding the need to scroll down as much as possible. Responsive, therefore, ensures clear and fast browsing, allowing unhindered navigation. Here is a good article to understand the actual functionality of a responsive redesign to relaunch a business. Is your site set up to be Responsive?
2. Widgets and Plugins. Compatible Technologies
All add-ons such as widgets, plugins and add-ons often make the mobile site slower, or even worse, may not work properly on all devices. For example, smartphones and tablets with the iOS system do not support the Flash format for displaying videos. To avoid hassle and create an optimal site on each platform, we recommend using HTML5. There is no worse thing in seeing a well-done site but with really backward technologies.
3. Fast connection and quick downloads
The mobile site should always be optimized to minimize page load times and have maximum speed to deal with line drops and other connection-related problems. Since no user wants to have to worry about connection stabilities in the middle of a transaction there are two things to do:
- upload resized images, made smaller and lighter to ensure good loading speed on pages;
- Eliminate graphic decoration details that take hours and hours to load.
4. Touch: indispensable
A mobile site that does not guarantee easy first-touch navigation … starts at a disadvantage from the very beginning! It is important, therefore, to exploit the potential of touch with regard to mobile devices through an optimized menu and intuitive graphics. The site must be designed to be easily handled by the user under all circumstances and, above all, in any location.
5. Intuitive form and layout for conversion
If there are conversion-focused forms within the site, it would be wise to highlight them through buttons and features that link directly to the page in question. It would also be better to reduce the site’s functionality on mobile and prefer icons that are not too small for ease of use. Avoid popups or additional windows that impede proper usability. The user wants to be able to access content easily, and you want to enhance your site. Nevertheless, there are some very complex sites on mobile that require direct SEO advice in order to best address optimal resolution. The points in our personal checklist should be viewed as tips and pointers for good work, not obligations. There are countless options to discuss with the client himself based on his needs. Everyone, therefore, can have and provide their own list of priorities, as long as you make a clear and, above all, effective TO DO LIST aimed at optimizing your mobile website. Do you agree with our checklist? Did we forget something? We are waiting for suggestions!
